Program Description
Toxicology is the study of the adverse effects of chemical, physical or biological agents on people, animals and the environment with the goal of enhancing the overall safety and health of the public. The program prepares students for careers in research, academia, regulatory agencies, and industry. Graduates of the program are trained to develop skills in critical thinking in a student-centric format that develops the skills to interpret basic and applied research to foster lifelong learning. Students are engaged in an inclusive and collaborative learning environment and are trained in an inter-disciplinary environment that provides depth and breadth of knowledge. Opportunities for collaborative research experts in other fields are provided within the structure of the program.
In addition to foundational education in the field, coursework includes a broad range of toxicology specialties including mechanistic, environmental, occupational, analytical, regulatory, and risk assessment. Graduate students engaged in research work closely with faculty who are experts in their respective fields and have active research programs in areas such as pulmonary toxicology, neurotoxicology, analytical toxicology, environmental toxicology, renal toxicology, molecular toxicology, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals.
