Program Description

The Master of Science in Patient Safety (M.S.P.SAF.) is a 4-semester hybrid program that provides advanced didactic education and experiential simulation training in both an online and in-person format, to advance professionals as patient safety experts and leaders.

Patient safety is an increasingly complex growing field in the evolving health care system. All institutions involved in patient care are at risk of adverse events that may cause harm to patients. Patient Quality and Safety Officers exist in a variety of healthcare roles ensuring high-quality care. Graduates of the program can pursue a variety of career opportunities in health care, pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries, public organizations, contract research organizations, consulting firms, and various organizations.

The School of Pharmacy is located on Chapman’s Rinker Health Science Campus, in beautiful Irvine, California. Our location in Orange County provides unique opportunities for students to network with numerous nearby health care organizations and companies. Southern California is a hub for the medical device and pharmaceutical industry, and health care organizations. As of December 2018, there were 523 hospitals in California; 37 are in Orange County. Orange County is the #1 U.S. county by the number of employees in the health field and #2 for the number of medical equipment and supplies manufacturing establishments (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). There are a substantial number of patient safety positions and job opportunities in Southern California.
