Program Description
The graduate program in Pharmaceutical Sciences provides training and education across the entire drug life cycle from drug discovery to post-marketing evaluation. Students enroll in one of 5 concentrations in the University of Florida Pharmaceutical Sciences PhD program: medicinal chemistry, pharmacodynamics (physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology), pharmaceutics, clinical pharmaceutical sciences, and pharmaceutical outcomes and policy.
Students join the UF program from a variety of backgrounds – Pharm.D., chemistry, biology, statistics, epidemiology, and economics – and find opportunities to contribute to discoveries that will advance fundamental knowledge of disease, drug targets, and outcomes and that will advance patient care. Led by award-winning faculty, our students are trained in up to date tools of in AI-based and structure-based drug design, chemical synthesis and drug optimization, chemical and synthetic biology, comprehensive natural products science, pathophysiology and pharmacology, assay development, pharmacometrics, drug delivery, pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine, pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomics, pharmaceutical health services research and the data sciences. Areas of research focus include cancer, infectious disease, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, maternal and child health, pain and addiction.
Our graduate students become members of interdisciplinary teams of scientists across the UF College of Pharmacy departments, centers and campuses, and the UF health sciences colleges. After graduation, our graduates continue to advance pharmaceutical science through positions in academia, industry, and government agencies such as the FDA.
The UF college of pharmacy is ranked #3 among colleges of pharmacy in NIH funding by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and has ranked in the top 5 in total funding since 2018.
