Program Description | The Health Services and Outcomes Research (HSOR) program emphasizes population-based, health services delivery and outcomes and policy research. Health services research examines how people get access to healthcare, how much care costs and what happens to patients as a result of this care. Outcomes research evaluates the effectiveness of health care interventions through changes in outcomes such as improvements in patient functional status, satisfaction with care, morbidity, and mortality. Data collected from outcomes research provide patients, health care providers, and payers of health services information about what does and does not work in real life settings. The HSOR PhD program offers areas of specialization including pharmacoeconomics, health services research, pharmacoepidemiology, mathematical/computational modeling, machine learning, health behavior and risk. Time of completion is typically four to five years. |
