Program Description
University of Florida’s online clinical toxicology distance education programs cater to working professionals, including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, first responders and poison control center professionals. The programs focus on toxicants, drugs of abuse, drug analysis and biotransformation, as well as the treatment of poisoned or overdosed patients. Classes are taught by internationally recognized faculty with expertise in clinical toxicology, medicine, pharmacy and pharmacology. The program offers a master's degree, graduate certificate and nondegree course options.
The clinical toxicology master's degree program is composed of 32 credits and is designed for health-science professionals who wish to advance their knowledge in the medical and toxicological principles of toxicants, drugs of abuse, drug biotransformation, analysis of drugs and treatment approaches to the poisoned or overdosed patient.
This master's degree is aimed at professionals working in poison control centers, hospitals and emergency departments.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Poison control center professionals
- Pharmacists
- Nurses
- Physicians
- Physician assistants
- Emergency medical assistants
- First responders, including EMTs
The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Toxicology is designed to make it easier for working professionals to advance their professional knowledge and careers. The program specifically targets general toxicology epidemiology and biostatistics in clinical toxicology and it also takes an in-depth look at toxic substances.
The 15-credit graduate certificate can be completed in as little as one year. Credits from the graduate certificate can later be transferred toward the online master’s degree in clinical toxicology later, if admitted and if a grade of “B” or higher is earned.
